Dr. Aaron Hernández Cervantes

My name is Aaron Hernández Cervantes, and I am an integrative physician. I have walked the path of traditional medicine and also incorporate specialties from complementary and regenerative medicine into my clinical practice.

This path has allowed me to train as a medical specialist in Precision Health, Nutrition, and Orthomolecular Medicine (European School of Health, Spain), Medical Neural Therapy and Neurofocal Dentistry (Universitat de Barcelona, Spain), and Healthy Aging (University of Murcia, Spain). I am also a specialist in Family and Community Medicine (MIR, Spain, University of Costa Rica, homologated at the European level), hold a Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery (Spain, Europe, and Costa Rica), and have specialized in Hospital and Health Services Administration (Universidad Iberoamérica, Costa Rica) and Business Administration and Finance (Technological Institute of Costa Rica). I have completed fellowships in Italy and the United States.

The story of how I chose this path is, in some ways, the story of how the path chose me. I say this because it is a true honor and privilege to know that my patients have trusted me to accompany them in the prevention, maintenance, and recovery of their health. This process has been deeply vocational. I can still hear my grandfather's words, calling me his "little doctor" when I was five years old. That was unusual in a family with no physicians, and yet even then I felt a strong and open calling to help people. One step led to another: first as a medical graduate, then as a doctor serving border communities in my beautiful country of origin, Costa Rica. At that time, as happens to many young physicians in the Americas, I chased the dream of becoming "the best of the best," seeking the best rotations in renowned hospitals and then pursuing my medical specialties, which led me across countries and continents.

After much work and effort, years later I found myself in a medical position at an excellent hospital in Murcia, Spain, where I learned about European health systems and protocols. Later, I followed an opportunity to become director of health areas in Costa Rica. I can say that I put all my love and dedication into creating a shift in the health paradigm, not only for my direct patients but also for the communities. I am proud to say that many advances were achieved in different fields, although once again within a very structured and protocolized model.

That was when I took time to think, but above all to feel whether all that effort, time, and sacrifice was truly the whole story. Something was missing, a lost link for me. When a doctor has, on average, only 6 to 10 effective minutes with a patient during a consultation, proper care becomes very difficult, and this is the reality of the different health systems I have experienced. I found myself in my "dark night," where many goals had lost their meaning. Seeing that my childhood dream was not exactly as I had imagined was very hard, so much so that I considered continuing along a different path.

In those challenging moments, when one has faith that things can improve and shifts from a victim mindset to becoming an entrepreneur and creator of dreams (a change in thinking supported by intensive personal growth and coaching work), this source of eternal wisdom and love that surrounds and guides us placed me in the hands of an extraordinary professional. She combined traditional and complementary medicine, but above all she placed her heart into every consultation. She not only helped me address my physical conditions, but also opened the door to a new world of health, the missing piece in my puzzle of what health meant: seeing the patient as an integral human being, with health needs but also with the need to be heard and accompanied in all dimensions: physical, mental, and spiritual.

Throughout my professional life, I have been able to develop in various areas; in the administrative field (15 years of experience), I have served as the medical director of the award-winning public/private project of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social) and the University of Ibero-America. In terms of clinical work, I have primarily worked with adolescent populations, adults with chronic disorders and their prevention, and the geriatric population. Currently, I am involved in the strategic management of the Metodología Libertad Clinics. Therefore, innovation and new challenges have defined my career.
