My name is Yury Mejías Calvo, and I hold a degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Costa Rica, with additional training in Osteopathy from the Madrid School of Osteopathy.
From a very young age, I had a restless mind, curious eyes, and hands that learned to share, support, embrace, and give love. I always had a desire to absorb everything that each place, person, and circumstance could offer me.
I came from a challenging environment in the region where I grew up, one that demanded self-improvement and always striving for more from a very young age. I went to Cuba to study medicine, but I had the feeling that I wanted more than the traditional context, so I returned in search of new paths. I started studying Physiotherapy and Psychology in Costa Rica, but I continued to question the foundations and structures that are often taught in academia. Then, on the brink of giving up, I discovered Osteopathy. It was like a turning point in my heart, like recognizing yourself and acknowledging your way of relating to life itself and the external world.
The philosophy of osteopathy goes beyond a symposium of techniques for each structure. Its art lies in the capacity for integration, analysis, creation, and sensation. Each osteopath is different from the other, and each one brings their style, essence, and knowledge based on where their steps led them. It is materialization, a tool for connecting material and spiritual life, a return to the inner sanctuary of one's own being; it is learning to accompany the journey of others without judgment, without prejudice, providing them with the necessary tools to heal themselves, learn about their own functioning, and embark on their own path to self-healing.
And then, everything made sense. Nothing had been in vain. I was able to draw from medicine, psychology, physiotherapy, as well as all the tools I learned along the way, including Biodecoding, Orthomolecular Medicine, Biomagnetism, Myofascial Techniques, Neural Therapy, Neuro-linguistic Programming, among others. And this does not necessarily mean that I perform all of them, but the mere act of learning more about them gives me the facility not to think where I end and the other begins, but to start collaborating in conscious teams. Because even for referrals, one must have criteria and assertiveness.
In recent years, I have met people with all these skills who have joined this path of 'how can we do it better?' Together, we have been able to create ways of working according to what each person needs, not as everyone claims to be 'comprehensive.' Integration is cooperation, consultation, dreaming together, creating together ways to contribute to each patient who takes their time and resources, not only financially but also emotionally, to courageously take their health into their own hands and take responsibility for it. Because the best Therapist or Healthcare Professional is of no use if the patient does not awaken their consciousness and take charge of their life, their health, and their happiness.
We all have a before and an after. Mine, as I mentioned, began a long time ago, but it was about five years ago during a 'dark night of the soul,' and through my own journey, I immersed myself in my own search through mindfulness meditation, sleep hygiene, conscious breathing, mental control, and my most profound journey: my mouth. It has led me to work with many wonderful dentists from whom I have learned so much, knowing that even in osteopathy, it has a privileged and fundamental approach to understanding some of the mysteries of the body. It has been one of the fundamental cornerstones of the Libertad Method.
The Libertad Method is born from my soul, grateful to all those wonderful professionals who take 'comprehensiveness' to another level. Every resource, every perspective, or 'specialty,' as it is often called, is appreciated. It is born to accompany the person, to see them beyond a file or diagnosis. The patient is re-educated, invited to take responsibility and their journey back to their inner sanctuary, which involves self-love, habit changes, mental, physical, and spiritual control and healing. And, of course, with a team of colleagues committed to the real concept of health, growing day by day, always seeking the best for the patient. This does not mean we have the absolute truth, but we are willing to seek the most balanced state for the patient and their own truth, so they feel a restorative embrace, finally finding their center, their axis, and strength to clearly define their goals and pursue them.
My name is Aaron Hernández Cervantes, and I am an Integrative Medical Doctor. I have walked the path of traditional medicine and also incorporate specialties from complementary and regenerative medicine into my clinical practice.
This journey has allowed me to train as a Specialist in Precision Health, Nutrition, and Orthomolecular Medicine (European School of Health, Spain), a Specialist in Medical Neural Therapy and Neurofocal Dentistry (University of Barcelona, Spain), a Specialist in Healthy Aging (University of Murcia, Spain), a Specialist in Family and Community Medicine (MIR, Spain, University of Costa Rica, European Homologated), and a Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery (Spain, Europe, and Costa Rica). I am also a Specialist in Hospital and Health Services Administration (Ibero-American University, Costa Rica) and hold a Master's in Business Administration and Finance (Technological Institute of Costa Rica). I have been a Fellow in Italy and the United States.
The story of how I chose this path is a bit of how it chose me, and I mention this because it is a true honor and privilege to know that my patients have trusted me to accompany them in the process of prevention, maintenance, and recovery of their health. This process has been truly vocational because the words of my grandfather, who called me his 'little doctor' since I was 5 years old, still resonate. This was quite atypical in a family that had no doctors, yet I felt a strong and open calling to help people. Everything fell into place, going through each stage, first as a licensed physician, then as a practicing doctor in border communities in my beautiful home country, Costa Rica. At that time, like many young American doctors, I chased the dream of being the 'best of the best,' seeking the best internships at the most renowned hospitals, and then pursuing my medical specialties, which took me to different countries and continents.
After much work and effort, I found myself years later with a medical position at an excellent hospital in Murcia, Spain, where I learned about healthcare systems and European protocols. Later on, I decided to take an opportunity as the director of healthcare areas in my Costa Rica. I can say that I put all my love and effort into achieving a change in the healthcare paradigm, not only for my direct patients but also for communities. I am proud to say that many advances were made in various fields, but at a highly structured and protocolized level once again.
It was there that I took the time to think, but above all, to feel if this was what all the effort, time, and sacrifices were about. Something was missing, a missing link for me. The fact that a doctor has an average effective time with a patient of between 6 and 10 minutes per consultation prevents proper care. This is the reality of the different healthcare systems I have had to experience. So, I found myself in my 'dark night,' where many goals had lost their meaning when I realized that my childhood dream was not exactly as I had envisioned it. It was very tough to confront this reality to the point where I considered pursuing a different path.
It is in these challenging moments when one has faith that things can improve, and the vision shifts from being a victim to becoming an entrepreneur and dream creator (this change in thinking thanks to intensive personal growth work and coaching). That's how this eternal source of wisdom and love that surrounds and guides us put me in the hands of an impressive professional who combined both traditional and complementary medicine but, above all, put her heart into every consultation. She not only helped me solve my physical ailments but also opened the doors to a new world of health that appeared to be the missing piece in my health concept puzzle, which is to see the patient as a holistic human being with health needs but also the need to be heard and supported from all aspects—physical, mental, and spiritual.
From then on, joy returned to my life, and my passion for my work as a doctor/therapist has multiplied exponentially, impacting the health and quality of life of my patients. Neural Therapy, Orthomolecular Medicine, Mindfulness, and many other methods that I continue to discover have added strengths for me to give more of myself. I hope that this adventure does not come to a halt, and I can continue to contribute my bit with love, warmth, and professionalism.
